When she was awarded a scholarship at an event, she took acting lessons in Young Actor's Space. The character she played was Mary Camden, she starred in the WB 7th Heaven series. Even though this role earned her great fame but she was still adamant that the image that Mary Camden being a nice woman would limit her acting talents. In order to break this image, she was partially dressed on the cover in Gear magazine. Jessica's fans were enraged by this move. Jessica resigned from the television series 7th Heaven in season six. In the film Ulee's Gold, she gained fame for her amazing acting. Her performance in this film won her the award of the Best Supporting Actress for Youth. Summer Catch is a great demonstration of her ability. Despite her brilliant performance, Rules of Attraction was not an instant hit. Her performance in The Texas Chainshaw Massacre, an horror film was noticed by the general public. Her performance in suspense movies has proven her a serious actor.
