Madekwe is a child of the mixed race family of South London in England. She is English as well as her father is Nigerian. She was a student at The Brit School when she was 14. In London, she studied at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where her acting degree was awarded. At school, she was a part-time actor in numerous stage plays, such as the King Henry V's Princess Katherine or Wuthering Heights.

Madekwe also starred as the lead character in How to lose friends & betray people that was aired by Sony Pictures Entertainment 2008. Some of her theatre credits are Little Sweet Thing (by Roy Williams) as well as Flight Path (by David Watson).
Madekwe's US debut was in 2009 when she appeared on her thriller The Beautiful Life. The drama aired for just two episodes before being cancelled on The CW. Ashley Davenport appeared in ABC drama Revenge in February of 2011. Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress, who was born into an extended family. Her parents were Roy and Patty Leggat. She was the top soloist in important competitions like International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance which were all given to Ashley.
