Simone Biles
Simone Arianne Biles (/sI'moUn 'baI@lzborn on March 14, 1997)[4] is an American artistic gymnast. Biles has won seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals for an American gymnast, and she is equal to ninth overall. With 25 World Championship medals, she is the most successful gymnast ever to compete at the Gymnastics World Championships, and is considered by numerous sources as the greatest gymnast of all time. In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Biles received individual gold medals in Rio's 2016 Summer Olympics. Bronze on the balance beam, vault, and all-around were her awards. Biles also won bronze in the United States Team, which was dubbed"the "Final Five". She was pulled out of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics due to "the twisties", an air balance disorder which temporarily impairs her ability to manage her balance. In the US team, she took home the balance beam medal as well as a silver. She was praised for the partial withdrawal she made, her persistence and focus on safety, mental and physical health. She also is a five-time World all-around champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) and five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) and three-time World balance beam champion (2014-2015, 2019) Two-time World vault champion (2018-2019) and a seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016 and 2018-2019 until 2021) and was a part of the gold-medal winning American teams in the 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also a World silver medalist on the the vault and balance beam (2013 and 2014), as well as a threetime World bronze medalist in vault (2015 2013 and the year 2018 on bars that are uneven).
Biles is the gymnast with the highest number of World medals (25) and most World gold medals (19) surpassing Vitaly Scherbo's record-breaking 23 World medals. She won her 25th and 24th medals, both gold medals, at the competition of 2019 in Stuttgart. [8] She is also the only female gymnast to have the highest number of World all-around titles (5). She's the sixth female to earn an individual all-around title both at the World Championships and the Olympics and is the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to hold both titles simultaneously. She is the tenth and first American female gymnast to earn a World medal in every event. This feat was achieved during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was born on 14 March 1997 in Columbus, Ohio. She is the fourth of her siblings. Shanon Biles, her birth mother, didn't have the time for Simone as well as her three other children, Adria, Ashley, or Tevin. All four children were between foster and adoption care. In 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles began taking care of Shanon's children in the northern Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after finding out that his grandchildren been in foster care. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Ron's sister Shanon as well as Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted their two oldest children.
